Any tips for pumping/working moms to make life easier?
My baby girl is 4 months old now and has been exclusively breastfed. I have been back at work and pumping for a little over 2 months now. I love breastfeeding it’s just that pumping is such a pain. I have a good electric breastpump Medela Pump n Style Advanced. My original plan was to breastfeed exclusively for at least 6 months but to try until 12 months. Now that breastfeeding has been established, and I love it and want to continue breastfeeding until baby is ready to be completely weaned.
Does anyone have advice for pumping/working moms to make life easier?
I did the pumping at work thing for about 2 months also. There were a few things that really helped me:
1) Avoid more than one cup of coffee in the morning. Besides the caffiene, it can really dehyrate you and limit your supply! And try to drink even more water than usual. It is so easy for supply to wane when you can’t be near your angel!
2) Find someplace where you are completely comfortable, whether it be your office, the bathroom, and empty room, etc. Don’t let anyone make you feel ackward about it!
3) Bring a picture of your daughter with you. My supply started to drop a little about 2 weeks back into working but as soon as I brought a picture of her with me, it went right back up. Plus it was fun to show off!
4) If you don’t have access to a refridgerator, make sure to bring an insulated cooler of some kind. Also, if you are planning using the frige, bring a bag or cooler to put the milk in. You do not need to be ashamed of it, but some people are skittish around visible breastmilk. I had a friend whose co-worker dumped hers out because it looked like old milk in the fridge
